Environmental pollution has increased to alarming levels in the federal capital, adversely affecting the adjoining areas of the city.
During a survey conducted by APP, citizens highlighted that cutting of trees, improper garbage disposal, bad sewerage system and construction of roads were the main factors causing environmental pollution.
Multiple development projects, the widening of roads and construction of underpasses were carried out at the cost of trees that resulted in the concentration of harmful gases in the air.
A Citizen, Hafiz Sibgat told APP that more roads and more driving lanes may help alleviate the traffic problems in the capital city but they would also promote more air pollution problems.
“Urban plantation and proper system of sewerage was the need of the hour to check the degradation of the environment,” he said.
He said the concerned authorities should evolve a strategy for the protection of trees, land and water ponds.
Therefore, an effective air management plan would also necessitate the introduction of an environment-friendly public transport system to reduce the number of cars on the road, and thus reduce air pollution from direct car emissions and fugitive dust emission from cars travelling on unpaved and paved roads.
When contacted, CDA spokesman said that the civic body was planning and doing serious efforts to eliminate the pollution from the city by making good sewerage system.
