Sitting pretty on top of our Angrezi chart, Ke$ha is quite clear about what she wants from life, her career and her upcoming album

You’ve always come across as a rebel. Deliberate or just who you are?
I am what I am. My mom (‘she’s totally out of her mind’, she winks), was in a punk band, then she wrote country music. My first memories were of her singing and I was in a guitar case watching her, so you see, what’s going on? So, rebel? No. Fun? Yes! I give a s**t about what others think of me. I care for my fans, my music and my boyfriends. I love to wear glitter on my body. I love body paint. That’s like my favourite thing. Sometimes, I have parties in my Nashville house and its clothing-optional. The only thing we have on our body is just the body paint.

You’re 25 and two albums old. Do you still feel like a fresher? How much have you grown as an artist since your first album?
I have learnt a lot from my past experiences, from all my musical works. All of it makes me feel more mature and bring more colours to my other work. I think we all grow as human beings first and my family, friends, fans have made me grow as an artiste by appreciating and supporting my music.

You’ve said that your new album Warrior was your attempt at reviving the Rock ‘N Roll genre. Why?
People all over the world say Rock ‘N Roll is dead, am here to revive it. Rock ‘N Roll runs through my blood. Always!

Warrior has more influences from your personal life, even more than your debut album Animal. What personal influences?
Warrior is a blend of the kind of music I am passionate about. It is influenced by dance pop and electro-pop. This album exemplifies my experiences while on tour around the world.

How much did your early financial background contribute to your success? Wouldn’t stardom and success have come to you sooner if you were better off then?
This record is not a record about me running around being broke, because that’s not true anymore. But I don’t think money has changed my attitude about life. My life is not dependent on it to be happy. I still love having terrible house parties and drinking from a plastic bottle at home.

Whom do you admire amongst your contemporaries and why? With whom would you like to collaborate?
I have been stalking Iggy Pop for three years and I finally got to him and said, ‘Let’s just do it.’ We have written a song together called Dirty Love and it’s full of screaming. I’ve got a chance to collaborate with a living legend and that’s beyond imagination. No other collaborations could get better than this.

What milestones would you like you achieve in your career?
I want people to love whatever I do in life. I bring out music only for them which ultimately gives me satisfaction.

Who do you see as competition?
Hmmm… no way, no one! I am me and no one’s like me.
