Saeed Ajmal recorded best bowling against South Africa in Tests by taking six for 96 in 42 overs on the third day of the second Test match at Newlands, Cape Town on Saturday (February 16).
It was also his third best overall after seven for 55 against England at Dubai in 2011-12 and six for 42 against West Indies at Providence in 2010-11. In two previous Tests against them he had taken four wickets at 84.75.
Robin Pieterson recorded his highest individual score in Test cricket by making 84 in 152 minutes off 106 balls with 15 fours. His previous highest was 61 in 166 minutes off 109 balls with eight fours against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2002-03.
Robin Peterson and Vernon Philander set up a new record for the eighth wicket against Pakistan in South Africa by adding 67 runs. It was South Africa’s third best eighth wicket stand against Pakistan after 124-run stand between Gary Kirsten and Pat Symcox at Faisalabad in 1997-98 and 88 runs partnership between Mark Boucher and Paul Harris at Lahore in 2007-08.
Nicky Boje and Mark Boucher’s 58-run stand at Durban in 2002-03 was the previous best eighth wicket stand for South Africa against Pakistan in South Africa.
Pakistan took a lead of 12 runs after dismissing South Africa for 326 in 102.1 overs. Pakistan made 328 in 116.2 overs. It was only second time in 11 Test matches when Pakistan took first innings lead over South Africa in South Africa. Pakistan took a first innings lead for the first time at Durban in 1997-98. After making 259 in 73.2 overs, Pakistan bowled out South Africa for 231 in 90 overs.
