The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a notice to the federation seeking assurances that President Asif Ali Zardari will voluntarily quit political activities in the presidency.

According to a private television channel, a five-member bench, headed by Chief Justice LHC Umar Ata Bandial, heard the contempt of court petition against President Zardari for his political activities and holding dual office (PPP co-chairperson).

On Feb 6, LHC welcomed the President’s decision to voluntarily quit the political office after the federation’s lawyer assured the bench in writing.

During proceedings, counsel for the federation, Advocate Wasim Sajjad, reassured the court that the Presidency would not be used for any political activities.
