Valentine’s Day: A day for expensive flowers and cutting class

In spite of cold weather across the city, citizens celebrated Valentine’s Day with a lot of enthusiasm on Thursday. Various recreational spots and hotels remained were seen filled with couples carrying heart-shaped cards, flowers, chocolates, sweets, stuffed toys and balloons.
Flower vendors sold flowers at an inflated price because of Valentine’s Day.
“Customers are interested in purchasing red roses for their loved ones,” said Eitsham, a vendor, while talking to Pakistan Today.
A large crowed of youngsters, elders and students were also seen at the flower shops of Super Market F-6 and Jinnah Super Market F-7.Young street vendors, who usually sell toys and other items, were selling red balloons and roses on road sides and signals. Like every festival, Valentine’s Day also brings a good opportunity for small-time vendors. “The sale of gifts increases 400 times than usual” said Ahmed Tariq, a shopkeeper while talking to Pakistan Today. Shopkeepers sold gifts and other things related to the event at double the costs and yet sales soared as the youth was eager to please their loved ones.
Many students have decided not to attend classes on the occasion. A small number of colleges and universities students dressed in colorful clothes spent the day along with their loved ones in parks, restaurants and at other public places. People celebrated the day in parks and gardens and many couples were seen at F-9 Park, Lake View point, Rose and Jasmine Garden, Shaker Parian and other picnic places of capital city.
