Six more die in incidents of violence, mishaps

Six people were killed in different incidents of violence and mishaps in the city on Thursday. A 16-year-old youth, Rehan, son of Yar Muhammad, and 17-year-old Shahrukh, son of Raja Nazir, were gunned down by their uncle over a family dispute near Kamran Chowrangi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block-10, within the remit of Gulistan-e-Jauhar Police Station. The dead bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) to undergo autopsy. The police said both the victims were relatives and were killed by their uncle over some family dispute. Meanwhile the police were conducting raids different areas of the city to arrest the accused. Separately, a laborer, 25-year-old Punhal, son of Saeed Khan, fell from the roof of an under construction building while working near Madras Bakery, Sakhi Hassan and died within the jurisdiction of Taimuria Police Station. The body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. Similarly, a man in his 40’s, whose identity could not be ascertained until the filing of this report, was killed in a road mishap near Anda Morr Intersection, North Nazimabad, within the remit of Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan Police Station.
The man was crossing the road when a speeding vehicle hit him to death. The dead body was later shifted to ASH for medico-legal formalities. In another similar incident, 40-year-old Samo, son of Panjo was killed in a road accident near Manzil Petrol Pump, Memon Goth, within the precinct of Memon Goth Police Station. Moreover, 17-year-old Tariq was killed in a road mishap near Sakhi Hassan Traffic police post within the limit of Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan police station, while 22-year-old Uzair was also injured in the same accident. The dead body and injured were rushed to ASH to undergo medico-legal formalities. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Muhammad Usman and 17-year-old Umair were wounded in a firing incident by unidentified armed men in New Karachi No 5. The injured were rushed to ASH for treatment, where their condition was stated to be out of danger. According to police and rescue sources, a tortured dead body of an unidentified man was found near Kalri Ground, Mauripur. Investigation revealed that he was kidnapped by unidentified persons and then shot dead.
Violence erupts in Karachi after arrest of a political figure: The Rangers conducted overnight search operation in a flat project located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and arrested at least six suspects and handed them over to police, officials said on Thursday. Following the eruption of rioting and rampage by criminal elements in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, the Rangers personnel cordoned off Rabia City and undertook a search operation. As a result, six suspected people from the area were arrested. Firearms were also seized from the arrested people, who had been given in to the custody of Shahra-e-Faisal police. Following the arrests, violence broke out in Gulistan Jauhar area after Rangers arrested a former office-bearer of a political party. Angry demonstrators blocked the roads by burning tyres and also set ablaze four cars, four motorcycles and two rickshaws. The protesters also set on fire dozens of makeshift shops. Furthermore, the demonstrators also resorted to aerial firing as a result of which one man was wounded. Meanwhile, some unidentified assailants hurled a hand grenade at a shop in North Nazimabad area but luckily it did not explode. Bomb disposal squad was called in to diffuse the grenade.
