Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Friday said that illegal mobile SIMs are being used for illegal activities like kidnapping for ransom, bomb blasts, target killings and communication among terrorists in Balochistan.
Chief justice was heading a three-judge bench hearing Balochistan law and order case.
Mobile phone companies’ lawyer Raza Kazim submitting the report said that the mobile phone companies are being hit by the court order relating to the sale of SIMs.
CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that SIMs are being sold at the medical stores and even on footpaths,
“Till few years ago, there was no case of sectarianism in Blaochistan and now Balochistan has become the heaven of criminals”, CJ said.
Balochistan DIG told the court that more than 700 SIMs have been issued in one name. SIMs are being activated with the help of the electoral rolls, he said.
Justice Sheikh Azmat in his remarks said that this is called stealing of the identity all across the world, the one who steals the identity doesn’t know name of the mother.
Balochistan DIG said that mobile companies are told that they are tribal and they don’t divulge the name of mother.
Justice Sheikh Azmat said if it is so happening then it is the fault of the concerned company.
CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry observed that the May 21, 2012 order relating to the sale of mobile phone SIMs was issued after meeting with all the stakeholders including PTA.

  1. There is no proper system in place to control sale of SIMS……cancel ALL and re- issued same numbers to geniuen customers only through Mobile company outlets..not through franchisee….
