Law and order situation in Sind, except for Karachi is improving, however, there are many factors behind the lawlessness and target killings happening in the mega city, said Sind Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, while talking to media persons after attending a reception hosted in honour by Pir Khalid Saeed Jan Sarhandi at village Tando Saindad near here on Thursday.
He said his government had given record progress to Sind province during the last five years. He said the uplift projects carried out during these five years were unprecedented. He further said there were several factors behind the lawlessness in Karachi, adding that there were more than the fair share of illegal migrants living in city who were involved in grabbing jobs and lands. He also said that during the rule of General Musharraf, terrorism and ethnic strife were greatly enhanced in the province, adding that the problems could be solved by establishing democracy in Pakistan for which elections should be held on time as per the constitution.
Qaim Ali said that some killers of Benazir Bhutto had been killed and some were arrested, however, the case in this regard was currently in court.
To a question, he said the issue of dual local government system in Sind was also pending in court
Furthermore, Qaim Ali said on the occasion that it was the first time in the history of the country that womenfolk were empowered under the vision of late Benazir Bhutto. Earlier, only males dominated the society because of their financial value.
He said that the present government had recruited women in different fields, various economic fields and also empowered them financially under different programmes.
“Today, our opponents are claiming to be the well wishers of Sindi people, but actually they have no interest with Sind,” he said and asked them where they were when they enjoyed the power of premiership in the past, adding that neither they served Sind nor did they provide job opportunities to the people of the province but instead kept the vacancies unfilled for 15 years.
On the contrary, he informed that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) not only provided direct jobs to the poor people in thousands but also provided job skill training to the youth to earn their livelihood.
Qaim questioned why the opposition was making alliance against the PPP in Sind if it had really failed to serve the people.
He said that their alliances against the PPP indicated that PPP was much popular among the masses and they had a fear of the currently ruling party. He also said, “We received votes from the people and we delivered on our promises without any discrimination.”
Meanwhile, he announced that the work on drainage scheme of Tando Muhammad Khan would be started within a few weeks. He also announced the de-silting of the irrigation canals in Tando Muhammad Khan and Thatta districts.
Earlier, Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar Zaman Shah while addressing the gathering recommended to the Sind government for providing job opportunities to the local youths of Tando Muhammad Khan in different development projects completed by the PPP.
The Sind CM expressed his apprehensions that the next caretaker government could not absorb the people from outside on the jobs created by the PPP and said that the local people would be given priority in this regard. Federal Minister for Political Affairs Senator Moula Bux Chandio, Senator Aajiz Dhamra, Senator Dr. Karim Khowaja, Sind Ministers including Agha Siraj Durrani, Mohan Lal Kohistani, MPA Haji Abdul Karim Soomro, MPA Muhammad Nawaz Chandio, President PPP Tando Muhammad Khan and Haji Ameen Lakho also addressed the public meeting.
Earlier, Qaim Ali inaugurated District Hospital Tando Muhammad Khan which had been upgraded from Taluka Hospital and completed at a cost of Rs 403.370 million in three years. Sind CM was briefed that after the upgrading of taluka hospital to district hospital, the working strength had risen from 24 to 100 doctors and from 100 to 400 paramedics.
Earlier in the day, Qaim Ali had also visited the residence of MPA Abdul Karim Soomro and offered fateha on the demise of his nephew.
