Karachi Literature Festival inaugurated

A large number of people attended the three day 4th Karachi Literature Festival which started at the Beach Luxury Hotel here on Friday.
The event was held in collaboration with Oxford University Press (OUP) and would last till February 17th.
An office bearer of OUP Amina Syed said that the citizens of Karachi would be able to see world- renowned scholars. Literary discussions, workshops and mushairas would add to the colours of the festival, she said.
Co-founder of the literature festival Asif Farrukh said that the emerging literary figures along with the senior ones were participating in thoughtful discussions. Besides, children literature festival would also be part of the show.
Legendary classical dancer Shima Kirmani and her groups also performed during the festival.
The festival attendance increased from around 5,000 in 2010 to 10,000 in 2011 and to 15,000 in 2012. The festival which is the first of its kind in Pakistan had been host to big names in the field of literature, including Anatol Lieven, HM Naqvi, Shobha De, Mohsin Hamid, Mohammed Hanif and Vikram Seth.
