Pakistan’s left arm medium-fast bowler, Mohammed Irfan, at seven feet and one inch, became the tallest player to appear in Test cricket when he made his debut against South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town on Thursday (February 14).
The 30-year old, made his Test debut after playing 36 first class matches. He also appeared in five one-day internationals and two Twenty-20 matches before making his Test debut.
West Indian fast bowler Joel Garner and Australian left arm fast-medium Bruce Reid shared the previous record with a height of six feet and eight inches.
Misbah-ul-Haq received his maiden duck in 10 innings of six Test matches against South Africa. It was his fifth duck in 64 innings of 38 Tests and first duck in 31 innings of 19 Test matches as skipper. Asad Shafiq became the 50th Pakistani and 476th batsman overall to score 1000 or more runs in Test cricket. The right arm middle order batsman from Karachi achieved this feat during his unbeaten 111-run knock. He batted 27 innings of 18 matches to reach this milestone.
Asad recorded his highest score in Test cricket by making an unbeaten 111 off 229 balls with 14 fours and one six. His previous highest score was 104 in 271 minutes off 235 balls with nine fours and two sixes against Bangaldesh at Chittagong in 2011-12.
The 219-run stand for the fifth wicket between Asad Shafiq and Younis Khan was the highest ever stand for Pakistan against South Africa in Test cricket. They erased the previous best of 186 between Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq for the fourth wicket at Dubai in 2010-11. The record of previous fifth wicket stand was held by Asad Shafiq and Misbah-ul-Haq. They added 127-run in the previous Test match at Johannesburg.
