Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti escaped a sucide attack at his convoy in Mardan on Friday, a private TV channel reported.
No casualties were reported in the incident that took place outside Abdul Wali Khan University of Mardan.
The attack took place when chief minister Hoti was going to attend a meeting.
Awani National Party (ANP) leader Bashir Bilour was also killed in a suicide explosion in Peshawar.
The attack that killed Bilour was claimed by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The ANP, which has been a continual target of militant groups operating in northwest Pakistan, also recently convened an all parties’ conference for developing a consensus on countering militancy in the country.
