Lack of water treatment plant next to Sundar Industrial Estate causing bone deficiency diseases in residents

Lack of water treatment plant close to Sundar Industrial Estate is causing bone deficiency diseases in the residents of the surrounding localities, Pakistan Today has learnt.

According to details, a treatment plant was to be set up on a 9 acre area so that the locals could be provided with clean drinking water. The water, otherwise, is highly contaminated and toxic.

Last year, bone deficiency diseases spread among the children of Manga Mandi where several of them were affected by the sub-standard drinking water that was available to them.

Residents of Mouza Shamki Bhattian and Kalalanwala were serious victims of the dirty water so the government installed two tube wells in this area. The rest of the localities are still without clean water.

The residents of Sultankae and adjacent areas are forced to drink contaminated water through hand pumps and turbines. The problem is increasing day by day as more and more industries are being established at the industrial site.

The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has also been silent on the issue.

There is also a lack of a proper drainage facility along Multan Road from Thokar Niaz Baig to Managa Mandi and hundreds of factories in the localities are injecting waste into the sub-soil water.

Dirty water is also being discharged into Balloki Sulemanki link cana through the Raiwind drain and Khan Kae Mor drain near Mouze Khankae.

According to a report, the sub-soil water is contaminated with dissolved solid, chlorides, photogenes (disease causing bacteria) and coliform.

“The government should take our demands seriously before we become victims of this disease,” said Yousaf Ali, a resident.

The EPA officials, while talking to Pakistan Today, said, “We will take serious action on the issue and the problem will be solved after the relevant department is taken on board.”

  1. This is a vey serious case and Punjab government must take active actions over the supply of dirty, contaminated and toxic drinking water to the citizens of Lahore. The same and very alarming situation is also in Sandha areas where the black powdered water is coming through local pipes to the consumers. Why proper and quick actions are not taken well in time. This black-powdered water is very harmful and dangerous to the health of the people.URGENT AND ON EMERGENCY BASIS ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED. NO REGULAR STREETS CLEANING DIRTY WATER AND LOTS OF BLOCKAGE SEWERAGE PIPES IN THE AREAS A COMMON COMPLAINS.DAMAGED MILLET ROAD AND EVEN MAIN SANDHA ROADS NEED ATTENTION.

  2. If possible, try getting water purification systems for your homes. It certainly won't do a whole lot but such filters should reduce some, if not a whole lot, of contaminants in the water. The Web site link is a reference to a company in Vancouver.
