Ahmad Faraz Trust on Thursday organised a seminar in the remembrance of world-renowned progressive poet Ahmed Faraz.
The seminar was held at National Language Promotion Department. Dr Kursheed Rizvi, a prominent poet, was awarded Ahmed Faraz National Literary Award during this seminar.
“Ahmad Faraz was the loudest voice against dictatorship and feudalism. Faraz’s point of view covers every aspect of life. He was a multidimensional person, just like his work. The life and work of Faraz shows his struggle for real democracy in the country,” said Abid Hassan Manto, president of Awami Workers Party (AWP), while speaking on the occasion.
Barrister Masood Kausar, former governor of Khyber Phaktunkhwa (KP) commented, “Faraz was a man of struggle. He fought the monsters of feudalism and capitalism his entire life. Verses by Faraz are a ray of hope for victims of feudalism and dictatorship.” He added Faraz’s thoughts should be communicated with the youth.
Anwar Ahmed, former chairman National Language Promotion Department, in his article about Faraz said, “Faraz was a resistance poet and romantic as well. His poetry is the mixture of romance and resistance. Actually, he gave new dimensions to romantic poetry.”
He further said that Faraz was completely aware of the traitors of the pen, and mentioned them in his poetry as Gul Faroosh. Ahmad Faraz’s son and chairman of Ahmad Faraz Trust, Shibli Faraz told the moot about the goals and achievements of trust. “Launching Ahmed Faraz award was our dream and we finally achieved it. Three awards will be given every year; one for best work in poetry in Pakistan, second for poetry from abroad, and third for the work on Faraz,” he said.
