Pakistan’s foreign office has stated that no agreement was reached with China over Gawadar Port and negotiations are still in progress in this regard, adding that India’s concerns are unwarranted.

Replying a question during the weekly briefing on Thursday, Spokesperson Foreign Office Muazzam Khan dismissing Indian concerns regarding Pakistan’s decision to transfer management of the deep-sea Gawadar port to China said a procedure is being considered to hand over Gawadar Port to China. He said it is a matter between Pakistan and China and no other country need to be involved in it.

He added that China is an important country of the region, which can play a positive role for regional peace and stability.

In reply to a question on the recent nuclear tests by North Korea, Spokesperson said that every country has got the right to do which North Korea did but international responsibilities should also be addressed.

To another query, he said that Pakistan has released 28 Taliban and is making sincere efforts to resolve the Afghan Problem. He hoped that the Ulema Conference due to be held in Kabul on March 10 would lead to the resolution of all the problems between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He furthered that Pakistan supports the establishment of Taliban’s office in Doha, Qatar.

The spokesman clarified that the foreign office had no connection to Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s recent visit to Qatar, reportedly for a meeting with the Afghan Taliban.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman traveled to Doha of his own accord, said Khan.

Replying to a question, Muazzam Khan noted that it is for Afghanistan and the US to decide about the US-exit from Afghanistan.

The Spokesperson said Israel and Palestine should accept each other, as it is significant for regional peace. He said that Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas would be visiting Pakistan on Saturday for a two day visit and added that Pakistan supports resolution of the Middle East Problem.

Speaking about Kashmir, Khan said that there Pakistan had not made any policy changes with regard to the disputed territory.

Pakistan desires a solution to the Kashmir dispute in line with the wishes of aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the resolutions of the United Nations, he said. Pakistan calls on India to release all release of freedom leaders and urges it to put a stop to its oppressive measures in Kashmir, said Khan.

He said that Pakistan wants to normalise relations with India and observed that the only way to realise normal relations is through negotiations.

  1. India has no business expressing concern on Gawadar. Thi is Pakistan's internal matter and none of their business. I am sure Indians are playing America's stiooge here as America doesn't want to say anything while it avails land route in Pakistan to sends thousands of containers withdrawing equipment from Afghanistan.

India needs to focus on Kashmir and pull out 400,000 troops, who have killed nearly 125,000 people during last few years, mostly tortured to death.
