Trained officials had been deployed in all police stations of Rawalpindi district to make Pakistan Automated Fingerprint Identification System (PAFIS) more effective. The system was installed in the CPO office seven years ago and the work had been started under the supervision of SSP Operations to make it operational.
According to sources, the finger print identification system was initiated in 2006 with the assistance of USA. The system, formed to keep record of fingerprints of outlaws, had been connected to Central Police Office Lahore and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Headquarters through an online network. When contacted, SSP Operations Israr Amed Abbasi said one official each in all police stations of Rawalpindi had been deployed.
“This official would take fingerprints of all arrested outlaws and send them to the central office in office. We have also contacted NADRA for the verification of fingerprints,” he said. He further said that the data would also be shared with the FIA.
