Prime Minister (PM) Raja Pervez Ashraf expressed confidence that a consensus caretaker setup will be formed to ensure transparent and free elections, while talking to Mutahidda Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on telephone in London on Wednesday.
Both leaders discussed issues regarding the caretaker setup and law and order in Karachi.
The PM said he will write a letter to the leader of opposition in the National Assembly soon for discussing and finalising the name of the caretaker PM.
He said allied parties will also be taken into confidence on the issue.
Hussain said it is the desire of all political stakeholders that general elections be held in a transparent and free manner. He said the election commission should be neutral and upright so that no one could point finger on its performance.
He urged the PM to ensure an increase in the number of police personnel in Karachi and to fully equip them so that they are able to overcome the law and order situation.
