The Supreme Court has sought an explanation from the attorney general of Pakistan (AGP) about the prisoners gone missing from Adiala Jail. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the missing prisoners’ case on Monday. Tariq Asad represented the prisoners, while Raja Irshad and AGP Irfan Qadir represented the intelligence agencies and the government respectively. Tariq Asad said that the prisoners had been seized illegally and that the party involved was now coming up with legal reasoning in order to legalise the matter. The CJP asked why the matter was not being resolved at the earliest despite the fact that some prisoners were sick. In response, the AGP requested for more time to give an explanation. Subsequently, the court adjourned the hearing until Tuesday (today).
