Having taken oath as the 20th Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Sunday, Engineer Shaukatullah said ensuring that the upcoming general elections are held in a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere will be his top priority.
“Though holding of elections is the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), as Governor I am bound to ensure a peaceful and friendly atmosphere for elections,” he said while responding to a question at the Governor House in Peshawar. Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan had administered oath to the new governor. KP Chief Minister Amir Haider Hoti, federal and provincial ministers, MPs and a large number of tribal elders-mostly from Bajaur Agency-also attended the oath taking ceremony. The representatives of United States and Islamic Republic of Iran Consulates based in Peshawar also attended the ceremony and later congratulated Shaukatullah for assuming charge as the new governor.
