National Committee on Development of Social Sciences Chairperson and University of Gujrat Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin said on Sunday the development of social sciences was imperative for development and progress of any society and strong democracies and developed nations had a long history of social science research culture in their universities.
Addressing a group of social scientist, he said the reformation of any society depended over the fact that how much attention was being paid to social sciences.
“As a matter of fact, social sciences had been a neglected area in Pakistan as less attention was paid to it at government level,” he said.
He said realising the importance of social sciences for the socio-economic development of the country and reformation of the society, the Higher Education Commission HEC had paid special attention to the strengthening of social sciences through a number of new programs; such as establishment of the Committee for Development of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities in Pakistan (CDSSHP), which had regional representation of reputed social scientists and worked under the dynamic leadership of Dr Najma Najam, Dr Ishrat Husain and Dr Nasser Ali Khan.
