Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that no power would disrupt the election process, adding that the elections would be held at their scheduled time.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Gilani said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would win a landslide victory in the upcoming elections in southern Punjab.
Talking about PPP’s election strategy, he said that the party had evolved a system of merit according to the governmental performance of members. He claimed that on the basis of the strategy, he said that PPP would win in the next elections.
Commenting on the creation of a southern Punjab province, he said that the party was very proud of its decision to take up the issue, adding that the new province met all the constitutional requirements.
Reminding citizens of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) unwillingness to support the creation of the province, he said that PML-N had always denied people of their legitimate rights. Furthermore, he said that PPP had always come forward to create solutions for the problems faced by the people. He said that the new province was the only solution for the long-neglected part of Punjab.
He issued a warning to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif that while the dissolution of the provincial assembly was in his hands, there would come a time when Shahbaz would not hold that power.
Furthermore, Gilani claimed that Punjab was no longer a constituency for PML-N. He alleged that PML-N had lost favor with the people because they had witnessed firsthand the party’s neglect.
“No conspiracy or foul play against the creation of the new province would succeed,” he said.
Moreover, he said that the PML-N should learn the lesson from its recent sit-ins and protests being held in Southern-Punjab and Islamabad which had exposed its real political popularity in the masses.
