Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani on Friday said Pakistan had eliminated the al Qaeda network from its territory. In a briefing before the members of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani said security forces had eliminated the al Qaeda network from Pakistan’s territory and al Qaeda operatives had been uprooted and were now on the run. Declaring the predator strikes in Federally Administrated Areas (FATA) of Pakistan unfruitful, he said drones strikes were proving counterproductive and were causing a rise in militancy. Terming them a violation of country’s sovereignty Jilani said the attacks were not acceptable for Islamabad. He said such attacks were violation of the United Nations charter, adding that Islamabad had always opposed them.
