The National Assembly session was prorogued on Friday after completion of business. It was the 49th session of the Lower House that was summoned on January 21. As the proceedings commenced, PML-N lawmaker Shireen Arshad pointed out no-quorum. Upon head counting, the House was found lacking quorum prompting Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi in chair, to read out the presidential order to prorogue the session. In its 12 sittings, besides routine business, the House also admitted the report of the Parliamentary Commission on Creation of New Province in Punjab. The House also discussed the prevailing law and order situation in the country, especially keeping in view the unrest in Balochistan. During the whole session, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl remained on protest against governor’s rule in Balochistan and walked out of the House in every sitting. A day after Eid Miladun Nabi on January 26, the House also specified its one sitting to provide members the chance to speak on teaching of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), setting a new trend in parliamentary history.
