The Punjab government dismissed on Friday 90 doctors who had been absent from their regular duties for almost one year, media reports said.
According to sources, the doctors who were dismissed by the government were not discharging their duties for the past one year.
Despite repeated warnings issued by the Punjab Health Department, the doctors did not pay any heed to the matter, due to which departmental action was taken.
While the hunger strike of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Punjab entered its fifth consecutive day, heads of organisations, including heads of Shabab e Milli and Islami Jamiat Tulaba, and political notables, including Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Shaukat Basra, visited the hunger strike camp, Pakistan Today has learnt. However, no breakthrough was achieved so far. YDA spokesperson Dr Nasir said the doctors had taken a final decision and would stick to it even if something ‘terrible happens” to them during the hunger strike. He said the government should fulfil their demands and show some seriousness towards the matter.
