The Islamabad Police have tracked down a gang involved in helping foreigners obtain Pakistani National Identity Cards and passports. The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has managed to arrest an accused, and efforts are being made to nab others involved in the scam. CIA Investigator Shams Akbar said, “We acted on a tip-off and arrested an accused, and will conduct raids based on information we have gleaned from him.” Akbar said Wazir Khan and Zia had been involved in fraudulently helping Afghan nationals obtain CNICs and passports. He said the accused would claim that their clients were blind or deaf, and apply for passports and ID cards on their behalf. He said the gang had applied for ID cards at the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) office at Kahuta, and investigation was underway to ascertain how many cards had been issued to them so far.
