Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Friday categorically stated that the dissolution of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was not constitutionally possible. Talking to journalists‚ he said Dr Tahirul Qadri had been told of the impossibility of a constitutional dissolution of the ECP in several meetings in Islamabad and Lahore. Responding to a question, Kaira rejected the objections of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on the commission for creation of new provinces. He said that the PML-N and the Punjab government had been requested time and again to nominate their members for the commission but they did not suggest any names. Furthermore, he said that the leadership of the PML-N was confused on several issues and needed clarity on many of its stances. Answering another question‚ Kaira ruled out delay in general elections.
