SC probes IG Sindh, DG NADRA

A large bench of the Supreme court on Friday resumed hearing of the Karachi law and order case.

The Supreme court had earlier taken a suo moto notice of the prevailing law and order situation of Karachi and on Friday remarked that police had lost trust of citizens as the force was politicized.
These remarks were made by Justice Jawad S Khaeaja shortly after the hearing resumed. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain questioned Sindh IG Fayyaz Laghari that what plans had he drafted to protect the lives of witnesses and questioned as to why he and his force was not able to protect the lives and arrest murderers of their fellow policemen.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja asked whether the apex court orders for the protection of witnesses were implemented. He said that all witnesses to the murder of Geo News reporter Wali Khan Babar were killed. The IG replied that people were not brave enough to testify in courts.

The court expressed concern over the surge in the number of people killed in the city, observing that the number had risen from 1800 to 2300. The court also inquired about progress into its order regarding 1.4 million illegal immigrants in the city. The IG replied that the federal government had given Afghan refugees six-months time.
The court summoned DG NADRA and other officials, observing that it wanted implementations of its orders.
