Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Thursday directed PEPCO to submit electricity transmission records of all grid stations under its jurisdictions and decreed to end load shedding exemptions to governmental residences and Bahria town.

The LHC CJ remarked as such during a hearing against inequitable distribution of electricity supplies. PEPCO apprised the court that line losses registerd at Lahore ranged between 10 to 25 percent, adding that this was the lowest anywhere in the country. The CJ lamented that 40 billion subsidies being granted on electricity were largely benefiting electricity thieves and questioned PEPCO as to why all its policies were benefiting law violaters.

The petitioner Azhar Siddique argued that political appointments in the power sector had destroyed the system. He said that Wapda officials were enjoying free electricity while ordinary citizens were paying interrupted bills suffering from unannounced power outages.
The court adjourned the case till March 20.
