The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab has expressed reservations regarding the open defiance of a ban on the use of loud speakers in mosques and other places and a lack of proper action by the district administration and police.

The CTD informed the government of Punjab that loud speakers were unnecessarily used in 72 mosques and public places in Rawalpindi region during the month of January but neither district government nor police took effective steps against violation of ban. In its report to the Punjab government, the department proposed that the ban under the loud speaker act should be strictly implemented in the backdrop of the prevailing law and order situation of the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ban on the unnecessary use of loud speaker was put in place to promote religious and sectarian harmony. All the mosques in the region are only allowed to use loud speakers for prayer calls and Friday sermons.
