Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif distributed more than 17,000 solar lamps among talented male and female students, under the Ujala programme.
As many as 11,000 lamps have been distributed among the students with the goal to help them study and prepare for exams. More than 2,00,000 solar lamps worth Rs 2 billion are being distributed in Punjab under the programme.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said the provincial government was utilising all available resources for development of the education sector, as it was key for the socio-economic uplift of the country.
The chief minister said projects like Danish Schools, laptop scheme, the internship programme for educated youth and Ujala programme would bring a revolution in the education sector of the country.
He said the provincial government had implemented mega-projects, in urban and rural areas for the welfare of people.
