A breakthrough was finally in sight on the issue of young doctors, as a delegation of senior doctors was called upon by the disgruntled juniors on hunger strike in their camp late on Thursday, Pakistan Today has learnt.
Sources revealed that the government had also decided to take up the matter as it was being politically exploited by other quarters. A delegation of senior doctors visited the YDA members in their camp to woo them back to work. Although the meeting had not yielded any immediate results, sources said a possible agreement would be reached within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the General Cadre Doctors Association had also convened an all parties’ medical conference to discuss the outstanding issues regarding the service structure. The conference would include teachers’ association, senior doctors and representatives of the YDA.
On day four, 43 out of total the total 110 young doctors continued their strike in the hunger camp.
Liaqat Baloch of the Jamaat Islami, Mehmoodur Rashid of the PTI and other student bodies also visited the camp and expressed their support with the young doctors. GCDA President Dr Masood Akhtar said the conference had been called to resolve the outstanding issue on the service structure. He said all big organisations would be taken on board to discuss the matter.
YDA Spokesperson Dr Nasir confirmed that a delegation of university principals visited them. “We told them our demands but still there is no result,” he said. Earlier, the Lahore High Court granted bail to the 7 young doctors booked in the Gujranwala case and cited that no evidence had been found by the investigation officer regarding incident.

  1. Do not treat those seven doctors as kids. Treat them like adult ,otherwise history will repeat itself. If they would have done this misbehavior in any western country, they would have been Putin jail and their medical licenses cancelled permanently.
