MEPCO and USAID to assist South Punjab farmers

Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) with the assistance of USAID Power Distribution Program has launched an outreach campaign for the farmers in the rural areas of Southern Punjab.

For this purpose energy conservation seminars have been organized by MEPCO in the rural areas of DG Khan and Rajanpur.

An event regarding the same was held in village Chah Hamraj Wala Chak Basi Tehsil Malsi of District Vehari, which was attended by a large number of farmers. Representatives from MEPCO along with the USAID staff highlighted the importance of energy conservation and also give awareness on reducing the power theft.

MEPCO highlighted the role and functions of MEPCO as an electric distribution company, discussed energy conservation and vowed to resolve the prevailing electricity shortfall by saving electricity and preventing losses. MEPCO has designed a campaign for farmers in order to educate them on energy conservation said MEPCO Additional Director Project Management Unit, Khawaja Aurang Zaib.

Asghar Baloch, Consumer Outreach Officer USAID Power Distribution Program told the farmers not to avoid extra lighting and also requested to report electricity theft to MEPCO complaint number: 0800-84330.
The five year USAID Power Distribution Program was announced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2009 as being among the United States efforts to support the Government of Pakistan to reform its power sector and mitigate the prevalent energy shortfall
