Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakruddin G Ebrahim on Thursday rejected all allegations against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) saying demands for reconstitution of the ECP were unconstitutional.
The ECP chief said that some political parties that want to gain political mileage ahead of the general elections are hurling baseless allegations against the ECP.
“We don’t have any political affiliations,” Ebrahim said, adding reputation of ECP is being damaged for political purposes.
“Appointment of every ECP member including myself is according to the constitution,” he asserted.
Ebrahim’s statement came hours after Tahirul Qadri, chief patron of the Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran, filed a petition in the Supreme Court today seeking reconstitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
