Wapda and National Bank of Pakistan scored identical 2-1 victories against their respective rivals ,Sui Southern Gas Company and PIA to set a clash in the final of National at Faisalabad hockey stadium on Wednesday.
Wapda played a full time 1-1 with SSGC which caused panic for them by ending the first half 1-0. Wapda demonstrated a higher level of mid field play to infuse life in the attacks and struck the match winning goal in the extra time.
Scorers,WAPDA:Waseem Abbas 62nd minute (PC) & Mohammad Suleman 80thminute (FG). SSGC:Sohail 34thminute (PC). In a match marred by ugly incident of mis conduct , NBP and PIA were locked in a 1-1 draw at half time and the same score was seen at the end of the full time. NBP struck better performance in the extra time to score the match winning goal.Scorers, NBP:Mohammad Dilber 2 Goals 7th & 71st minutes (FG).
PIA:Ammad Butt 20thminute (FG).After the match the tournament director , Muhammad Farooq announced the disciplinary action against the players PIA Hockey Team and Managers/Coaches of both the teams. Players Ammad Shakeel Butt and Afsar Yaqoob were banned for one month and Mohammad Sultan Amir for sixth months. Managers of both the teams Qamar Ibrahim (PIA) and Muhammad Arshad (NBP) have been warned to be careful in their future conduct. Whereas Coaches of both the teams Muhammad Akhlaq (NBP) and Muhammad Irfan Mehmood (PIA) have been banned for the next five matches.
The final will be played between NBP and Wapda tomorrow, Thursday at 1430hrs and SSGC will take on PIA in a classification match for the 3rd and 4thplace.
