Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Wednesday said that the provincial assemblies enjoy powers to make and amend laws and the only jurisdiction of the court is to ascertain whether all the laws being drafted are within the limits laid down by the constitution. The CJ was hearing the petitions against the Sindh Local Government Act when he made the remarks.
The case is being presided over by a three member bench of the apex court headed by CJ Iftikahr Muhammad Chaudhry.
Petitioners’ lawyer Mian Abdul Rauf made a plea to the court that Sindh Local government Act be declared void. The CJ asked him to cite any reference to a case where the court has undone a law made by the assembly and added that the court was not concerned what was happening in the assembly. Mian Abdul Rauf replied that the court had declared NRO void. The CJ reacted to the statement by stating that a time of two months was granted by the court for getting the NRO approved from the national assembly and the court pronounced its NRO verdict only after PPP failed to meet the deadline.
The CJ adjourned the hearing until February 12.

If the assembly made laws and they have been rectified by assembly, than you can only amend the law in the assembly.
