The unchecked use of sub-standard syringes in the DHQ hospital has triggered grave concern among patients.
The syringes being used in the hospital have not been approved by the Drug Testing Laboratory (DTL) despite the presence of pharmacists in the hospital. The rampant use of sub-standard syringes places a question mark on the credibility of the pharmacists and their testing system.
“This syringe causes immense and immeasurable pain during the course of administration of an injection or blood donation,” said a patient.
Currently two kinds of 23-guage syringes are being used in hospital wards, emergency and laboratory. One syringe had been approved by the laboratory, while the second syringe in use is extremely sub- standard. The syringe needle is extremely sharp and causes immense pain, patients reported.
Patients have demanded the immediate removal of sub-standard syringes from the hospital stock, and have asked the authorities to hold a probe into the supply of these syringes.
