An Instagram BlackBerry 10 app is in the works and will bring the world’s most popular photo sharing service to the new BB10 OS in the coming months, new reports have revealed.
Currently available for the likes of iOS and Android, Instagram is reportedly set to be introduced to the newly launched BlackBerry 10 operating system in the coming weeks, further bolstering the emerging platform that has been tasked with reviving BlackBerry’s fortunes in the smartphone market. Whilst BlackBerry has confirmed that the likes of WhatsApp, Angry Birds and Skype will all be made available for the BlackBerry Z10 supporting BlackBerry 10 OS in the coming weeks, neither BlackBerry nor the Facebook owned Instagram has as yet confirmed any planned Instagram BlackBerry 10 app release.
Despite this, reports courtesy of BlackBerry blog CrackBerry have suggested that “Instagram will definitely be coming to BlackBerry 10.” Citing unnamed sources, the latest reports have suggested that “while no formal announcement was made this week about Instagram coming to BlackBerry, we did get word that BlackBerry is engaged in the process with Instagram right now.” Failing to narrow down an expected Instagram BlackBerry 10 app release date, the speculative reports added: “No date yet, but it will be there.”
With more than 70,000 BlackBerry 10 apps already available through the newly refreshed BlackBerry World App Store, the success of BlackBerry’s latest smartphone operating system could hinge on its software backing, with BlackBerry keen to avoid to lack of support currently effecting the widespread adoption of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 OS. Although having secured support from a number of key developers, the BlackBerry 10 app collection is currently void of a number of high-profile applications such as Instagram, Temple Run 2 and Sky Go.
Revealing that it currently has no intentions for the BlackBerry 10 OS, instead focusing its efforts on the more popular iOS and Android platforms, an official Sky spokesperson last week told TrustedReviews: “Whilst there are no immediate plans to launch on the Blackberry 10 we continue to consider how we can offer customers new and flexible ways to enjoy Sky.” Would the availability of a Instagram BlackBerry 10 app and a selection of high-profile applications tempt you into overlooking iOS and Android in favour of the BlackBerry 10 brimmed BlackBerry Z10?
