The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued notices to 21 sitting and two former Members of Punjab Assembly who possess dual nationalities.
According to ECP, the members of provincial assembly (MPAs) have been summoned on February 07 to submit a reply in this regard. Those who have been issued notices include former MPAs Jameel Ashraf and Tahir Ali Javed and sitting MPAs Zaeem Qadri, Shaukat Aziz Bhatti, Rana Babar Hussain, Farrukh Javed, Raza Ali Gilani, Pir Kashif Chishti, Imran Shaukat, Muhammad Yar Hiraj, Tahir Khalil Sindhu, Makhdoom Muhammad Irtiqa, Arfa Khalid Pervez, Maira Malik, Ghulam Sarwar, Imran Khalid, Shahjahan Ahmed Wattoo, Ali Haider Noor, Hafiz Mian Noman, Mohsin Lateef, Mian Tariq Mehmood and Shamsheer Haider Wattoo.
Former ambassador Asif Aizdi had sent reference to the Election Commission against the MPAs for holding dual nationalities.
Moreover, The ECP has also summoned representatives of opposition parties on February 7, which staged sit-in outside the Parliament House. According to Additional Secretary of ECP Afzal Khan, the reservations of opposition parties would be discussed in details with their representatives.
