The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will stage a sit-in outside the Parliament House on Monday (today) in support of what it termed empowerment of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Several other political parties, including the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), the Jamhoori Watan Party, the Awami Tehreek Sindh, the Sunni Tehreek and the Functional League are likely to join the sit-in. Participants of the sit-in will also hold a protest against lack of action on the Supreme Court’s decision regarding new delimitation of constituencies in Karachi. Under the plan, PML-N-led parties will gather outside the Parliament House. They will take out a rally from the Parliament House to the ECP, where a two-day sit-in will be held. PML-N office-bearers from Sindh will also join the protest sit-in. PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar has described the planned sit-in as a symbolic exercise. Although Fazlur Rehman’s JUI-F has also supported the PML-N’s agenda, it fell short of practically joining the protest. Fazl said that their non-participation would be in reaction to PML-N’s decision not to support the JUI-F walkout from Senate against the imposition of governor’s rule in Balochistan.

  1. They have been mocking Tahirul Qadri's long march all the time and for themselves they could not even find a good enough reason for the SIT-IN.

  2. They have no agenda only to prove that they can also gather some people in Islamabad to copy Qadri!

  3. To be fair this sit-in is in aid of democracy by empowering the Election Commission of Pakistan. Demands made by Qadri, if they had been fully accepted, would have seriously weakened our democracy.
Zardari's vile government is akin to a blocked artery which can be corrected through an 'election' by-pass. On the other hand 30 years of direct and 20 years of in-direct rule by the GHQ is a cancer, a corrosive impediment which can only be removed by political chemotherapy.
