No Indian channel airing Pakistani content, Kaira tells NA

Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira on Friday said Indian TV channels are not airing Pakistani programmes. “However, a joint working group on information comprising on India and Pakistan Ministries of Information and Broadcasting is working on the mutual sharing of TV programmes between the TV channels of both the countries,” said the minister in a written reply submitted in response to a question during a question hour session in the National Assembly.
The minister said that the information section, PAHIC, New Delhi has informed that as per policy guidelines of the Indian Information Ministry only the registered/licenced satellite TV channels are down linked/received/transmitted and re-transmitted in India for public watching.
“Since Pakistani (TV) channels are not registered with or licenced from the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, therefore, these are not available on distribution networks for public viewing,” he added.
He said that ARY, QTV and Madni channels were being shown by some Indian cable operators in few packets of Muslim majority areas of India.
“A few Pakistani films like Bol and Khuda Ke Liye were screened in the Indian cinema in the recent past after clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification of Government of India, the minister added.
No ban on sale of SIMs in open market; NA informed: Minister In-charge of the Cabinet Division on Friday informed the National Assembly that there was no ban imposed on the sale of mobile phone SIM cards in the open market since Jan 1, 2013.
“However, sale of SIMs through retailers i.e. those sale outlets which do not have direct agreement with Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) has been banned with effect from 1st December, 2012.
The sale of SIM cards is continuing as per standing operating procedure (SOP) in vogue through customer services centres (CSCs), franchises and those outlets which have direct agreements with the CMOs, the minister added in a written reply submitted during the question hour session.
