Tauqir Sadiq handed over to Interpol

Former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chairman Tauqir Sadiq has been formally handed over to Interpol by the CID. Sadiq, the key player in the alleged mega scandal of Rs 82 billion, was arrested in Dubai by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team and Pakistani police. Investigating officer probing the OGRA corruption case confirmed that Sadiq was in Interpol’s custody, adding that legal formalities were being worked out to bring him back to Pakistan.
deportation rules: Meanwhile, the Supreme Court (SC) has said that Sadiq’s return should be dealt with under deportation rules and should not be linked with extradition laws. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) official Azam Khan explained that Dubai officials were saying that when their country issues someone residence visa then even cancellation of passport does not matter. That’s why Dubai authorities are seeking some more documents, he added.
Justice Jawwad S Khawaja said when a person’s passport has been cancelled by the issuing authority then it should be dealt differently.
