The first Test match of the three-match series between South Africa and Pakistan will be played at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg from Friday (February 1).
This will be the 19th Test between the two teams and 10th Test match in South Africa. South Africa have won eight, lost three and drew seven in 18 Test matches played against Pakistan. They have won six, lost two and drew one in nine Test matches at home while Proteas have won two, lost one and drew four in seven Test matches played in Pakistan.
The last series between the two teams was played in United Arab Emirates and both Tests were a draw.
HIGHEST INNINGS TOTALS: South Africa made 620 for seven at Cape Town in 2002-03 which is their highest ever total against Pakistan. Pakistan recorded their highest total against South Africa in 1997-98 series by scoring 456 at Rawalpindi. Their highest against South Africa in South Africa is 329 which they made at Johannesburg in 1997-98.
LOWEST INNINGS TOTALS: Pakistan were bowled out for only 92 runs at Faisalabad in 1997-98 which is their lowest ever total against South Africa. South Africa also recorded their lowest against Pakistan in the same match by scoring 214. South Africa’s lowest against Pakistan at home is 124 which they made at Port Elizabeth in 2006-07 series. Pakistan’s lowest in South Africa is 106 at Port Elizabeth in 1997-98 series.
HIGHEST MATCH AGGREGATE: As many as 1374 runs were scored for the loss of 27 wickets in 419.1 overs at Abu Dhabi in 2010-1 which is the highest match aggregate between the two sides.
LOWEST MATCH AGGREGATE: Only 687 runs were scored for the loss of 35 wickets at Cape Town in 2007-08 which is the lowest match aggregate in a complete match between the two teams.
HIGHEST INDIVIDUAL SCORES: Abraham de Villiers’ unbeaten 278 at Abu Dhabi in 2010-11 is the highest individual score for South Africa against Pakistan. Herschelle Gibbs who made 228 at Cape Town in 2002-03, holds the record of highest individual score for South Africa against Pakistan at home. Azhar Mehmood who made 136 at Johannesburg in 1997-98, holds the record of highest individual score for Pakistan.
BEST BOWLING IN AN INNINGS: Paul Adams’ seven for 128 at Lahore in 2003-04 is the best bowling performancce in an innings on either side. Fanie de Villiers’ six for 23 at Port Elizabeth in 1997-98 is the best bowling performance by a South African bowler at home. Waqar Younis and Mushtaq Ahmed shared the record for Pakistan. Waqar Younis took six wickets for 78 runs at Port Elizabeth in 1997-98 while Mushtaq claimed six wickets for 78 runs at Durban in the same series.
BEST BOWLING IN A MATCH: Fanie Villiers holds the record of best bowling performance in a match for South Africa against Pakistan. He took 10 wickets for 108 runs at Johannesburg in 1994-95. The record of best bowling performance in a match for Pakistan is held by Waqar Younis. Waqar claimed 10 wickets for 133 runs at Port Elizabeth in 1997-98 series.
