The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday renewed its demand for a judicial commission to probe the Kargil operation.
Talking to journalists outside the Parliament House, National Assembly Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that there was no justification for the Kargil operation, adding that only four generals launched the operation without taking the then government and other military leadership into confidence. He said that after the revelations by Lt General (r) Shahid Aziz, it had become imperative to constitute a judicial commission which should conduct a thorough investigation into the whole matter. “General Shahid Aziz’s writings revealed the real actors who were directly related to the Kargil crisis. We reiterate our demand for a probe by a judicial commission to find out why the Kargil crisis took place, who initiated the crisis and who is responsible for the outcome of the crisis,” Chaudhry Nisar told the media. “More than 500 Pakistani troops were killed in that unnecessary adventure, and if India could constitute a commission and publish its report, why not us?” the PML-N leader asked. He said that the military coup by General (r) Pervez Musharraf on October 12, 1999, was an extraordinary incident in the history of Pakistan and had been casting its dark shadow not only on the country but on the region as well. He said that Gen (r) Shahid’s book had vindicated Nawaz Sharif’s claims that he never authorised the Kargil operation. Talking about the current political situation, Chaudhry Nisar said that agreement between the government and the opposition over the caretaker setup was difficult to reach. He also criticised Dr Tahirul Qadri “for creating hurdles” in the way of general elections, adding that Qadri was unnecessarily raising hue and cry over issues which had already been settled. Nisar said that Dr Qadri was a non-state actor, and that a foreign national could not be made a stakeholder in the electoral process.
Will these idiots from PMLN ever shut up, they keep on going on about the injustices against them in their time. Pathetic leaders & corrupt to the core.
Noora aik lanti darpook hai. Is ko sif marwany ka pata hai
Yes, we want to know what was the purpose behind that epic failure which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of soldiers and an ignominious retreat. Was it, as some suspect, simply a result of an idiot's egotistic impulse to win glory for himself?
This dolt is okay till he opens his mouth. What part of military / defence strategy is a judicial subject and taught in the law colleges. Absurd request.
Why not similar probes into all other operations by the army, starting from 1947? We will at least get to learn the truth, which has been hidden by these Generals to save face and their skins. We have an army of excellent soldiers commanded by lousy Generals. That is why we have had to face humiliation in every war with India.
Agree with you 100%. Musharraf should be tried for murder of hundreds of soldiers and hanged publicly. But for these Generals we would have been an advanced and prosperous nation, and the Generals without the huge assets they have. And, we would be a trustworthy and respected nation today.
