The Interior Ministry late on Thursday night announced that cellular services in Karachi would be blocked between 12 noon and 3pm today (Friday) because of a serious threat of terrorism in the city.

Announcing the decision, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the government had received credible information of an imminent threat of terrorism in the violence-marred financial hub of Pakistan.

Malik said that the government had taken all stakeholders concerned in confidence over the issue and the provincial government would enhance police patrolling in the city to thwart any terrorist plot.

He said the decision was approved by Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
