Punjab Police Inspector General is likely to be given the additional charge of Lahore CCPO to a DIG or an Additional IG, after the retirement of Lahore CCPO Aslam Tareen on February 1, Pakistan Today has learnt. As the assemblies were likely to be dissolved in a couple of months to make way for a caretaker government, no high ranking police official was ready to accept the position for the short span of time. According to sources, Lahore DIG Security Ahmed Mubarak, who serves as the acting CCPO of Lahore in Aslam Tareen’s absence, was the most likely candidate to be given the additional charge.
Sources told Pakistan Today that DIG Aftab Cheema and DIG Muhammad Ameen’s names had also been considered for the post; however, Cheema refused to take charge, whereas Ammen was on his way to attend the National Management Course. Lahore DIG Security Ahmed Mubarak told Pakistan Today that being a government officer it was his duty to accept any post offered to him by the authorities.
“If the authorities will choose me for Lahore’s CCPO, I will surely accept the offer,” he said.
Mubarak was recruited as an ASP in 1988 and has served as the DPO of Sargodha and Gujrat. He has also served in Laiyya, Bahawalpur, Faislabad and Gujarawala.
