Supreme Court Registrar Dr Faqir Hussain on Wednesday has convened a meeting of High Court registrars on February 2, to discuss issues related to the administration of criminal justice.
The meeting would be held at the Supreme Court Registry Branch in Lahore, and would be attended by the home secretary, police inspector general, prison inspector general, the reclamation and probation director general and Punjab prosecutor general and the national judicial committee secretary, said a Supreme Court spokesman.
The meeting would review efforts of the investigating agencies to ensure timely submissions of challans and consider steps by prison departments for the production of under-trial prisoners for hearing.
The meeting would also probe matters related to the release of deserving convicts on probation and actions taken by provincial governments for the improvement of prisoners’ living conditions.
Recommendations will be placed before the policy making national judicial committee in its meeting on February 1, to evolve strategies to improve the performance of the criminal justice system.
