The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has declared 27 housing societies, including the Airport Housing Society (extension) and the Lawyers Cooperative Housing Society, illegal and has issued notices to them.
The RDA has warned citizens to refrain from entering into purchase and sale deals with these societies. RDA Director Jamshed Aftab said as many as 27 housing societies had been declared illegal constructions, as they did not meet the requirements laid down in section-12(5) of the Law for Housing Societies, 1976. These societies include Gulshan Ali, Gulf City, Fazal Town, Lake Vista, Al-Gulberg Town, Lawyers Cooperative, Interlink Property Centre (Khan Builders), Shah Pur Town, Ibrahim Villas, SS Marketing, Sihala Villas, Snober City, Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood, Malik Afaq Extension Airport Housing Society, Palm City, Lawyers Town, Radio Colony and Madina tul Islam Housing Society. Aftab said notices to these societies had been served. Their constructions, gates and offices had been demolished, and a list of these societies had been sent to the additional district collector revenue with recommendations for a ban to be imposed on the transfer of land in these societies.
