PML-N demands Kargil probe through judicial commission

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday demanded that the government constitute a judicial commission on Kargil operation following revelations made by Lieutenant General (retd) Shahid Aziz in his book.

Talking to reporters outside the Parliament, Nisar said that there was no justification for the Kargil operation, adding that only four generals launched the operation without taking the then government and other military leadership into confidence.

He said following revelations of the General (retd) Aziz it has become imperative to constitute a judicial commission which should conduct a thorough investigation into the whole matter.

Talking about current political situation, Chaudhry Nisar said that an agreement between the government and the opposition over the next caretaker government seems difficult.

He also criticized Dr Tahirul Qadri for creating hurdles in the holding of next general elections, adding Qadri is unnecessarily raising hue and cry over issues which were already settled.

Nisar said that Dr Qadri is a non-state actor and that a foreign national could not be made a stakeholder in the electoral process.
