Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced that the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) would be inaugurated on February 10. Presiding over a high-level meeting to review the progress on the BRTS, he said that work on the Metro Bus project was almost completed and commended the efforts of construction workers who had worked day and night for the completion of the project.
Furthermore, he said the Punjab government had evolved the state-of-the-art project for the common man, adding that the transport service would be free for one month after its inauguration. The chief minister also said that the fares of the BRTS would be kept within the reach of the common man. Moreover, the chief minister said that the inauguration of Metro Bus would be an important event as the project was a milestone in the transport history of the country.
He said the Punjab government had taken effective steps to build a new Pakistan.
Shahbaz commended the efforts of construction workers and said that it had been completed in the record time of eleven months amidst the construction of an 8-kilometer long flyover.
The chief minister said that a modern system of electronic ticketing had been set up at stations while escalators had been installed for the convenience of elderly citizens and the disabled.
Furthermore, Shahbaz expressed confidence that the BRTS transform the transport culture of the province and bring about a significant change in the traveling pattern of the citizens.
He said that Metro Bus project was a great example of public service and was unprecedented the country’s history.
