Another bloody sun sets on city

At least five persons including a woman were killed and several others injured in separate incidents of violence in different localities of the metropolis on Wednesday.
According to details, unknown armed men barged into a house located at Macchar Colony in the limits of the Docks Police Station, and opened indiscriminate fire on the residents. As a result, a woman named Ayesha Farooq was killed while her husband Muhammad Farooq was critically injured. The unknown assailants later escaped from the scene. Afterwards, the dead body and injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) to undergo medico-legal formalities. Police said that the incident was an outcome of personnel enmity and registered a First Information Report (FIR) 27/2013 under section 302 and 324 against accused Haroon, Waqas, Nehar Ali and Aqib. In another incident, 42-years-old Salman was killed when unidentified armed assailants sprayed him with bullets near Jinnah Square area of Malir. Another person was shot dead at Jamshed road area when unidentified gunmen opened fire at him.
Similarly, 20-years-old Adnan Qadri s/o Iqbal was killed in a shootout in Jamshed Quarters Road-2 in the jurisdiction of Jamshed Quarters Police Station. The body was later moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for postmortem. Police had found the body of the victim early in the morning from the area where he used to live with a bullet hole in head. In separate incidents, more than 10 persons were injured in separate firing incident in Ghas Mandi, Site, New Karachi, Nazimabad, Sohrab Goth and other areas of the city.
Meanwhile, police arrested five accused during separate operations carried out in different localities of the city and recovered weapons, drugs and snatched motorcycles from their possession.
Meanwhile, two persons died in a collision between a rickshaw and a motorcycle in Kemari area of the city. The dead bodies were later shifted to a nearby hospital for post-mortem.
In a similar incident, 60-years-old auto-rickshaw driver named Zahidullah s/o Zainullah, and 45-years-old passenger Farid s/o Ali Muhammad died when a speeding truck collided with their rickshaw near Karachi Port Trust Ground in the limits of Jackson Police Station.
Police said the victim Zahidullah died on the spot while the passenger succumbed to his injuries in the CHK. The truck driver managed to flee from the scene. However, police impounded the truck bearing the registration number C-3868 and registered an FIR against the driver.
In addition, four people were injured in a hand grenade attack in Lyari Town on Wednesday. According to details, two unidentified armed men hurled a hand grenade on a buffalo pen in Hangorabad area of Lyari in the limit of Kalri Police Station.
Resultantly, four men including Irfan, Aslam, Ali and Zakir sustained injuries. They were rushed to CHK afterwards, while the attackers managed to flee the area. Police said that two armed men riding a motorcycle lobbed the hand grenade. Sources said miscreants attacked due to e non-payment of extortion money.
Meanwhile, family members and other citizens staged a protest against the killing of a young man here on Wednesday. The protesters blocked the roads and railway tracks by burning tyres. Per details, the young man was shot dead by dacoits while offering resistance when his car was being snatched. Almost all main markets, shops and business activities were suspended in the city due to the protest. The main demand of the protesters was the provision of security to the people of the area. The protest was later ended after police officials negotiated with the protesters and ensured them that the department would look into the matter.
