Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain said on Wednesday that he might never be allowed to return to Pakistan.
While addressing a special programme named “Tanzeem-e-Nau” arranged by the MQM in Islamabad, the MQM chief, who lives in London under a self-imposed exile, said that whenever his party tried to take its message to Punjab, violence was spread in Karachi. He claimed that the MQM was the only party which represented the poor and middle classes of Pakistan. He further said that his struggle was for the country and people and would continue even if he was not allowed to return. He said that the country was passing through a crucial period and politicians were not taking the issues seriously and soberly. In a message to national and international institutions, Altaf said that he wanted to bring a revolution through the ballot box. He claimed that the MQM would show remarkable results in the general elections.
Furthering his statement, he said that nobody would be allowed to derail “the caravan of democracy which has been restored after numerous sacrifices”.
He said that the society had been divided into two sections – haves and have nots. “Autocracy is making merriments on behalf of the poor who are the real force of production, while the downtrodden have been left at the mercy of fate,” Altaf said. He pledged that the MQM would remove the gap between the privileged classes and the poor people by permanently exterminating the feudal system from the country. Altaf has also announced that his party would stage a large public meeting in Punjab soon.
He also congratulated the MQM candidates who had won by-election unopposed on four Sindh Assembly seats in Karachi.
